Educating a Doctor of Chiropractic,  setting the record straight for the many who question.

I get frequent questions about what is required of an individual to become a Chiropractic physician in North Carolina.  The short answer is that we have to have a bachelor's degree followed by 4 years of intense training that includes 2 years of internships.  Then before being granted a license to practice every Chiropractic physician must pass both National and state board examinations.

I say that is the short answer as my education goes far beyond this. I have a Masters in Divinity with my focus of study being in Pastoral Counseling.  I have been a Chaplin, postgraduate educator, Lecturer, writer, speaker, seminar leader, and weekly Coach to my fellow Chiropractic physicians who have served as my think tank and confidants in my journey to be the best Doctor that I could possibly be.

So here is the basic breakdown of the Doctor of Chiropractic Degree as compared to the Medical Doctor program.

Typical Program Content	Years 1 and 2 are very similarto MD. Years 3 and 4, greater emphasis is placed on biomechanics, radiology, adjustments and natural medicine.	Years 1 and 2 are very similar to DC. Years 3 and 4, greater emphasis is placed on immunology, pharmacology and surgery.

The requirements do not stop here, We are also required to take at least 24 hours of continuing education to keep our clinical skills up before we have reissued our licenses each year.
