There are some staples that we should all look for in our diet. I do not like to tell patients that they can not eat certain foods as I find it makes them think about it and eat it even more. You know what I am talking about!
I find that our better choice is to take and look for foods that we have not been regularly and find ways to add these to our diet. It is even better if we do so by using them to replace less healthy choices. We are all going to eat and the challenge is to choose better things to eat which bring us more health and vitality.
Here is the list of what is often called the Superfoods:
Protein - lean red meat, salmon, omega 3 eggs whites (limit the egg yokes), low fat - plain yogurt, black beans, tempeh, kidney beans, low-fat cottage cheese (lactose-free if you can find it), chicken breasts, turkey breasts, protein supplements (whey protein isolates, milk protein isolates, or rice protein isolates)
Veggies and Fruits - spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, oranges, mixed berries, Blueberries, lettuce, bananas, grapefruits, cucumbers, kale, collards,
Other Carbs -whole wheat bread, mixed beans, quinoa, whole oats, amaranth
Good Fats - mixed nuts, avocados, extra virgin olive oil, fish oil, flax seeds (ground)
Drinks - Water (a lemon or Lime wedge for flavor), green tea, liquid exercise drinks (quickly digested carbohydrate and protein), greens supplement
Think about what you can eat from a healthy list rather than what you cannot have and you will see and feel the difference in how you look and feel in a short time.
Till next Time!,
